Write Your Author Bio

  • 2707 West Cary Street Richmond, VA, 23220 (map)

Let’s be honest, it can be hard to write the “bio” or “about” section for your website or book jacket. Either you feel like you don’t have enough brilliant accomplishments, or you do have accomplishments, but writing them all down feels like bragging. Still, you need to connect with your audience. You need to sell your writing, be invited to speak, and get your name out there.

In this workshop, Katharine will walk you through examples of great and not-so-great bios. We’ll discuss what you must include, what’s extraneous, and how to write a bio that’s a specific match to an event or piece of work. You’ll leave with at least two solid drafts of your own bio as well as concrete tips for writing more.

Bio: As the Executive Director of James River Writers for over ten years, and a volunteer for eight years before that, Katharine Herndon has helped bring hundreds of literary superstars to the JRW stage. She has looked at thousands of author websites, rewritten numerous bios, and can help you make your website information stronger and your bio more compelling. See more on the “About” page.
